2013 World Competition

CHS sends our first team ever to the World Competition of Odyssey of the Mind.   

     Over 20,000 students and supporters from around the world traveled to 

Michigan for the 34th annual Odyssey of the Mind World Finals from May 22 – 25 at Michigan 

State University. Students from different cultures and widely varying economic backgrounds  

proved that creativity is universal by coming together for this event. Teams demonstrated 

their unique creative solution to an Odyssey of the Mind problem while appreciating the 

creativity of others. 

     The teams worked throughout the school year solving an OotM problem and were 

judged as the most creative in a series of rigorous state and national competitions. At MSU, the 

teams represented their state and country in hopes to prove that they are the world’s most 

creative problem-solvers. Carlsbad High School did our best to shine for the great state of California and city of Carlsbad.
     We are excited to say that we are the 10th best team in the world in the "Its' How You Look at It" problem in the high school division! We are very excited.  This problem of drama and commentary on social observations is very popular at the high school level, so we competed against some of the worlds best teams, making it very challenging.  

      Although this was a competition to be a world champion, we have formed life-long 

friendships. These friendships span the globe! There was 827+ teams from elementary to college. We had the privilege of becoming friends with teams from all over such as the teams from Singapore, Mexico, University of Delaware, Rowan University, Newtown CT., Arkansas, and many more.

     There were also many other events at World Finals, such as the Creativity Festival. Booths 

from each Odyssey state or country will challenge attendees with creative games. NASA, our 

is a sponsor traditionally brings numerous activities and presentations. Our team also received a special private tour of one of the worlds largest cyclotrons, The National Superconductor Cyclotron Laboratory, by Dr. Eric Berryman.
